Friday kicked off Mother’s Day Weekend AND the last week of school assignments. It was a bittersweet realization for ol’ Daddy because it signals I am responsible for my own content and time management. YUP, running my own homeschool as led to a dependence on dem kids. I need their antics and shenanigans for stories and the all important factor of INTEREST. My M-F schedule is directly linked to the free time in-between “helping and keeping dem kids focused”. Mother’s Day is the final holiday of the 2020 school season and the pressure was on for the teacher, aka ME, to make it memorable.

Friday was the school day and the students damn near did cartwheels. Yeah, it opened up Friday with plenty of action. All dem kids were excited about choosing, creating, buying something for Mother’s Day. The students? THEY just kept begging for a school cancellation due to the holiday. π NAW. We ain’t done NOTHING like that the entire quarantine! Cancel Academy? I’ll do early release but we ain’t canceling jack. In the past, early release was treated special but the students (dem kids) have gotten spoiled now. We have it EVERY Friday since quarantine started in March. π The Daddy’s Academy of Gratitude system is down like 4 FLAT ASS tires. School stuff 9am – 11am, hour for lunch and a movie, school again 12pm – 2pm then, it’s clean up, you’re finished. IF somebody hasn’t completed THAT day’s academics, they finish after clean up. Amazingly, kid #2 stayed late Friday and read an hour WITHOUT being asked. π€πͺπΎπ€πͺπΎ My guy earned himself some extra LAPTOP time with a grown stunt like that.

Our lunch and an ol’ skool movie was NOT ol’ skool at all. My son chose this and… I mean… Geeeez, I’ve never seen Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Lex Luthor quite like this. It was a GREAT movie, animated, BUNCH of adult jokes and hints buuuuuut the language and violence is adult like a MUTHAFUGGA! Oohhhhhh, I wasn’t ready and shocked. My 1st grader was captivated. My 5th grader was blown into silence. My 8th grader saluted me. Mission accomplished, Mother’s Day Weekend had some genuine excitement!

Y’all KNOW we can’t do tooooo much so we smashed on the backyard. Out of all the crunk spots of quarantine life, the backyard is our full family reunion park event. Sure, the kitchen is the high class club where everybody WANTS to go but dress code (hygiene), guards (parents), etc. keep out the riff raff (dem kids). The living room is the hot spot scene where something ALWAYS popping, loud, busy AF. Mother Sweet wanted an outside celebration so outside we went.

Mother’s Day Gifts

Kid #1, graduating, did henna for Mother Sweet. Why henna? ππΎ Thank you for asking. Henna is the “ink/oil” painted on the body. Its purpose is that the oil cools the nerve endings resulting in lower stress levels and pain relief. *GRINNING* I called next IMMEDIATELY!

MY Mother’s Day gift was an ode to 2012. That year, I graduated with a Master’s. She graduated, Registered Nurse. We spent the summer apart because the kids and I were in Nacogdoches, TX while she schooled in Houston. We moved TWICE in 2012. On top of ALL that, she birthed our last daughter, kid #4. Since that year, I’ve kept ALL kids so she could enjoy a girls’ weekend to cover for that year. When I say ALL kids, I mean our kids, her cousins’ kids, her friends’ kids, WHOEVER is rolling with my wife, I keep y’all kids until everybody come back together and scoops them up. The WHOLE weekend. I feed them all, referee, change a diaper, clean up a mess, play videogames, I do it all so she and her crew can truly enjoy Mother’s Day Weekend.
Not this year, QUARANTINE. π€£π€£π€£π€£ And kids all too old for a babysitter. π·
So beautiful!
A thousand thank you’s for the affirmation! π€πͺπΎππΎ
